Is Teletherapy effective? How does it work?

Teletherapy existed long before Covid restrictions, and Fletcher Therapy has provided therapy and mental health resources online since 2007. Click below to read more.

Teletherapy offers much more than reduced exposure to the latest COVID variant.  You save gas, energy, and time when you log into a secure video session with your therapist. Childcare, work schedules, illness, and more become more manageable, and that means less stress for you.

But is it effective?
Overwhelmingly, yes. Read about some of the studies done on teletherapy here: https://www.apa.org/monitor/2020/07/cover-telepsychology
Additionally, clients seem to really enjoy teletherapy, finding the convenience doesn’t take away the necessary interpersonal  connection with the therapist.

Teletherapy is an effective, convenient, and safe alternative to face-to-face sessions. I use HIPAA compliant software and video platforms, and, for now, teletherapy is the only type of session I offer.

How does it work?
Prior to your appointment, you will be emailed a link to your session. You and your therapist log into a secure video platform at the time of your appointment, and proceed with the session just as if you were in person.

What kind of computer setup do I need?
You will need:

  • A good internet connection and a camera on your computer or smart phone.
  • A quiet, well-lit, private space, preferably near your router.
  • Minimal distractions and external noise.
